My Approach

Relationships are a pivotal component to our life experiences and how we view the world. Throughout our life span the relationships and connections we hold shape our beliefs, attitudes and even the “path” we take in life. That is why at Life Pathways Therapy, LLC the relationships you hold within therapy and outside therapy are essential to successful treatment. I deeply value the client – therapist relationship I build with my clients, parents and caregivers during their therapy journey with me. I truly believe healthy, connected relationships can “move mountains” when overcoming personal challenges.
Neurodiversity can be defined as “diversity of human minds with focus on the infinite variation in neurocognitive functioning.” – Dr. Nick Walker. If you’d like to read more about Neurodiversity click here for an article by Harvard Health.
I believe we are all on a unique journey in life, and all aspects of our personhood holds strengths to aid us in that journey. I honor and embrace the richness neurodivergence brings to our world, and prioritize as a therapist to uphold this and to not diminish the qualities that make a person neurodivergent.

Caregiver role in their child’s therapy: Caregivers play a vital role in their child or teen’s day to day life, and mental health treatment has the best outcomes when a client is living in a supportive environment. I truly believe parents know their children best; I seek to partner with parents to help create a supportive environment for the success of their child. Therefore, I expect caregivers to be very involved in the therapeutic process.

  • Parent Consultation typically is a service that is interwoven within individual therapy with a child client or during parent/child therapy. Depending on the child’s needs, diagnosis, and neurodevelopment, certain coaching methods are used.

NOTE: If a parent is seeking a few coaching sessions without including their child in formal therapy or parent/child therapy, I will only be taking self-pay for these stand-alone “booster” services at this time. If your child is an existing client while seeking parent coaching, it may be possible through your insurance if the child’s treatment plan is still active.

Beyond Behaviors - A Polyvagal Approach

Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) : This approach is designed for children ages 2 to 7 years of age.
PCIT is an evidence-based treatment for young children with behavioral challenges (please note I do not provide this approach to clients with a confirmed or suspected Autism diagnosis at this time). PCIT is done across two treatment phases. The first phase of treatment focuses on reestablishing warmth in your relationship with your child through learning and applying skills proven to help children feel calm, secure in their relationships with their parents, and feel good about themselves. The second phase of treatment will equip you to manage your child’s behaviors while remaining confident, calm, and consistent in your approach. With consistent, weekly attendance and homework completion, PCIT can be completed within 12-20 sessions on average.

  • I have a passion for helping clients navigate any emotional or social challenges that may arise in connection to their neurotype, specifically working with those who are Autistic or with ADHD. My goal is to support client’s, parents’ and/or caregivers’ understanding of neurodivergence and ways to support the client’s development of skills to aid in self-advocacy, autonomy and positive mental health. Treatment methods will vary by client and family need, but I take a brain-based approach. This is represented as honoring sensory needs, utilizing person-centered emotional regulation skill building, supporting caregiver understanding of the client’s neurotype and ways for the caregiver to partner with their child to build a stronger connection, to supporting mutual perspective taking skills and social problem-solving.

  • OCD can be exhausting, often pulling people into cycles of intrusive thoughts, doubt, and rituals meant to get relief. Treatment focuses on gently interrupting that cycle through approaches like Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), while also drawing from ACT and inference-based CBT to help clients relate to thoughts differently and build tolerance for uncertainty. When working with children, I often involve parents through SPACE to help shift patterns at home that may unintentionally keep OCD stuck.

  • I use a person-centered, neurodiversity affirming approach when addressing these needs. Below are the skills I typically support:

    • Building / Maintaining relationships

    • Conflict resolution

    • Social problem-solving

    • Self-Adovcacy

    • Understanding Boundaries

    • Decision-Making Skills

    • Impulse Control

    • Goal Setting

    • Growth Mindset

    • Time Management

    • Self-Monitoring
